Here are some things to consider:
- Renters policies cover you for a year at a time.
- The insurer will offer to renew the policy every year, so there’s no need to reapply.
- You can review and update your coverage at any time.
Question I’ve been living in my apartment for almost a year now. That means my current insurance policy is about to expire. Will my coverage end if I don’t reapply?
Nick Weiser, a Farmers Insurance® agent in Oxnard, California, explains how policy renewals work.
Answer Although renters policies have a one-year term, there is no need to reapply every year. Your insurer will offer to renew your policy and continue to cover you if you pay the renewal premium. You will receive new policy documents every year outlining the terms of offered renewal coverage.
That said, I meet with most customers at renewal time to review their coverage and update it as needed. I also make sure they are taking advantage of any discounts available to them.
