Privacy Security Agreement Frequently Asked Questions

You may have received a vendor Privacy Security Agreement (PSA) from Farmers Insurance®. Below you’ll find answers to some frequently asked questions. If your question is not answered here, please contact Farmers directly at (866) 857-5052.

Why am I receiving this document?

By law, Farmers has to safeguard the personal information of our customers, and those protections must be extended to how our vendors handle our customers’ personal information. We are sending this agreement to you to ensure that you will use the same standards Farmers uses to safeguard our customers’ information.

What is nonpublic personal information?

Nonpublic personal information is any information we give you that can identify the Farmers customer (i.e. first and last name combined with their social security number, driver’s license number, or date of birth). Basically, any information that would disclose the customer’s identity.

Will I be receiving this agreement every time I receive an assignment?

No, you will only receive this agreement annually.

Do I need to consult with an attorney or other professional?

That is your decision. Farmers cannot consult or advise you on the use of an attorney or other professional.

There are laws listed in the agreement from the state of Massachusetts, but we do not work in Massachusetts, so does that apply to us?

The Massachusetts law only applies to vendors that handle claims from customers that reside in Massachusetts. It is cited purely as an example. There are many states with applicable laws.

Do you need a copy of my written security procedure?

No, we do not need a copy of your written security procedure.

Do I need a separate PSA for subcontractors?

You will be required to hold the subcontractors you use on behalf of Farmers to the same privacy security standards. If you choose to have a PSA for your subcontractors that will be your decision.
