Since our founding nearly 90 years ago, Farmers Insurance® has valued working with purpose and creating a meaningful impact. We have a commitment to serve the communities where our customers, agents and employees live, work and play. And as Farmers strives to maintain a high standard of corporate citizenship, we dedicate our time and resources to three important areas: disaster resilience, education and civic engagement.
"The measure of our worth is not what we have done for ourselves, but what we have done for others."
~ John C. Tyler, Co-Founder
Farmers' Pillars of Corporate Responsibility
We focus on preparedness, response and recovery, helping to rebuild communities and restore lives when disaster strikes.
We invest in our youth, improving access to education and job readiness.
We leverage resources to support communities to help meet basic needs such as hunger and homelessness.
Our Community Outreach Programs
Through Thank America's Teachers®, which begins its fifth year in 2017, Farmers will once again give away more than $1 million in educational grants to deserving teachers across the country.
Victory Media's G.I. Jobs named Farmers a Top 150 Military Friendly Employer in the US, and we support our veterans with corporate job opportunities, agency ownership opportunities, and donations to various non-profits across the nation. In 2016, Farmers launched Suits for Soldiers, a program designed to provide professional attire to veterans and members of the military as they transition to civilian life. In just a few months, Farmers collected more than 70,000 donated items.
We reward employees who give back to their communities with a program called the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP), making charitable donations to non-profits they care about. For each of the past four years, we've selected employees to volunteer for one- or two-week opportunities to rebuild homes in communities devastated by disasters such as tornadoes, floods and hurricanes.
We also support employee generosity to schools through our Matching Education Gifts Program. Reflective of its mission-oriented culture, Farmers matches employee contributions to a qualifying College, University or K-12 school up to $500.
Farmers is also making progress on environmental initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint, including changes in the way we manage our facilities, our fleet and our travel. We’re working to: make our buildings greener; encourage electric vehicle (EV) use with charging stations at some sites; reduce energy consumption with carpool programs and flex time; remove less fuel-efficient cars from the road with a vehicle donation program; strive for a paperless office; and deploy a mobile claims center bus with green features.
The Farmers Family Fund is a potential resource for Farmers employees who experience significant and immediate financial hardship caused by catastrophic circumstances outside their control. Any full-time Farmers employee (or, in cases of employee deaths, the spouse or dependent of a full-time employee) may apply for financial support from the Fund. In five years, we’ve awarded more than $1.4 million in grants to employees in need.
"My daughter, Taylor, has uncontrollable epilepsy and was in need of a service dog that would not only detect Taylor's seizures before they happened, but also give major emotional support during other numerous procedures and surgeries.
I started a public crowd-based fundraising page, and while I was able to raise some of the $15,000 needed to qualify for a dog, I was several thousand short, and the Fund was able to help provide the final amount needed in order to get a date set and start the training."
