Farmers Insurance® Announces Initiative To Help Support Disaster Recovery and Resilience Efforts in Houston
Insurer Donating $400,000 and Sending Hundreds of Employees to Assist in Post-Harvey Rebuilding

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Jan. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Farmers Insurance® announced today its plans to send hundreds of employees to Houston in 2018 to assist in rebuilding homes after Hurricane Harvey. The announcement was made as part of the Farmers Insurance Open® at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California.

As part of the insurer's longstanding commitment to support communities impacted by a disaster, Farmers Insurance agents and employees will travel to Houston and assist in helping rebuild areas affected by the devastating hurricane. In addition, Farmers® has already donated $400,000 to SBP, a non-profit that helps rebuild homes after disasters.

"Farmers Insurance looks forward to leveraging our 90 years of experience and hundreds of dedicated employees to help Houston," said Keith Daly, chief claims officer for Farmers Insurance. "As we respond to disasters, from hurricanes to fires, we are committed to helping communities who are impacted by disasters."

Farmers will be constructing pre-fabricated walls throughout the tournament week. These pre-fabricated panels will serve as the frames for homes for SBP families and be distributed back into communities. PGA TOUR players are also contributing to the effort and will assemble disaster preparedness kits for families affected by natural disasters this year.  Our Mobile Claims Center is also serving as the location for player scoring on the South Course, providing TOUR players a firsthand look at the technology which help support communities impacted by disasters.

"We are deeply thankful for Farmers robust investment in SBP. Farmers is exemplary for post-disaster recovery – their commitment, including important volunteer labor, helps homeowners with a path home, rather than face the abyss of uncertainty," said Zack Rosenburg, co-founder & CEO of SBP. "Equally important is Farmers investment in resilience training, to help homeowners prepare for and mitigate risk before disaster occurs. Due to Farmers support of SBP's resiliency work, thousands of homeowners will take steps, before disaster, that will help prevent them from ever needing SBP's post-disaster services."

Farmers Insurance and SBP previously supported rebuilding efforts after Superstorm Sandy in New Jersey, the floods in New Orleans and the Joplin tornado in Missouri. Farmers was one of the first insurers on the ground after Hurricane Harvey devastated the Texas Gulf Coast in 2017.

"I'm especially proud of the Farmers Insurance agents and employees who donated their time during the Farmers Insurance Open to support organizations like SBP," said Daly. "The Farmers Claims Catastrophe employees have helped communities affected by natural disasters and we hope the Farmers Insurance Open also makes a difference to other communities in need."
