Farmers Donates Vehicle as Part of 'Rides for Hope' Initiative
Farmers Partners with Local Repair Shop and Other Vendors to Restore Vehicle

Los Angeles, Calif. (December 11, 2014) – Farmers Insurance, one of the largest multiline insurers in the country, in partnership with Ford of Murfreesboro auto dealership, announced today the donation of another vehicle as part of the insurer’s Rides for Hope program, which helps to provide restored vehicles to families in need.

Farmers Insurance, with the help of The Journey Home, a local Murfreesboro, Tennessee non-profit and outreach center for homeless and at-risk individuals and families, identified a single parent truly in need of assistance. The working mother of three has been working for several years but had been unable to save enough to purchase a car.  Now that she has a car, she will now be able to devote more time to helping her children with their homework since she will no longer need to rely on public transportation, greatly reducing her commute time to and from her job.

“At Farmers we’ve recognized that access to a safe and reliable vehicle is one of the most important resources a family needs to get back on their feet financially,” said Doris Dunn, Director of Community Relations for Farmers Insurance. “Over the years we’ve donated a number of restored vehicles to help families in need.”

Farmers Insurance developed the Rides for Hope program as a way to donate vehicles to military veterans and other deserving families across the country.  Working in cooperation with local auto repair shops, car dealerships and other companies involved in automotive repairs, Farmers provides vehicles that are repaired and eventually donated to families chosen by local social service organizations.

In this latest endeavor, Ford of Murfreesboro will donate the labor necessary to repair the Farmers donated vehicle. Other vendors, including Copart, LKQ/Keystone, AutoZone and PDR, will donate parts to help complete the vehicle restoration before November 27. In addition, Farmers agents and employees will donate their time to help restore the vehicle, assemble a roadside assistance kit to be included in the vehicle upon donation, as well as raise funds to purchase and donate a fuel card to help get the receiving family back on the road.
