Farmers Insurance ® has proudly sponsored Rickie Fowler since 2013. His journey to PGA TOUR stardom - with wins at The Dell Technologies Championship (2015), Players Championship (2015) and Wells Fargo Championship (2012) - began in California at the Murrieta Valley Golf Range under the tutelage of his grandfather Taka Tanaka and coach Barry McDonnell.

Before turning pro in 2009, Fowler was regarded as one of the top amateurs in the world, reaching number one in the World Amateur Golf Rankings in 2007. He attended Oklahoma State University, where he won the 2008 Ben Hogan Award, given annually to the best player in college golf. Fowler pays tribute to his alma mater by wearing orange on Sundays.

Fowler has partnered with Farmers ® in numerous natural disaster recovery efforts. He made a special effort for the residents of Moore, Oklahoma, when a 2013 tornado devastated their city. In addition to matching a $100,000 donation for the Red Cross, he surprised golf teams at three local high schools with a clinic and new Cobra golf bags.

Torrey Pines Golf Course offers two championship, public golf courses along the coast of the Pacific. The North and South Course were both originally designed by William F. Bell on the site of Camp Callan. The South Course underwent a redesign in 2001 led by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. The North Course recently completed its own redesign, led by Tom Weiskopf.

Since 1968, Torrey Pines has played host to the Farmers Insurance Open, with the first two rounds being played on the North and South course. The final two rounds are played on the South Course. In 2008, the South Course hosted the U.S. Open, won in dramatic fashion by Tiger Woods.

The Newly Redesigned North Course

When the PGA TOUR returns to Torrey Pines for the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open, players will experience a comprehensively renovated North Course. The primary goal of the $12.6 million project: Improving its professional standard while maintaining the desirability of its original feel. The North Course now represents a great complement to the South Course for 36 holes of world-class golf, and no trip to San Diego would be complete without a stop to Torrey Pines.

The most obvious change in Tom Weiskopf's new design reverses the nines so that players now finish their rounds with dramatic coastline vistas. The acclaimed architect's plan also:
  • Improved green speeds and firmness
  • Increased greens sizes by an average of 42%
  • Widened fairways by an average of five yards
  • Decreased bunkers from 59 to 41

"I tried to bring the North Course into the 21st century," Weiskopf said. "It was built in the 1950s, and nothing of significance had ever been done to it. Everything we did in the redesign was to bring it up to current standards. It's now a top-of-the-line golf course."
