Tulsa, OK (March 11, 2011) – Noted actor and philanthropist Edward James Olmos will be coming to northeastern Oklahoma in May thanks to the efforts of Farmers® Insurance and the Greater Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the groups announced at a chamber-sponsored business mixer tonight in Tulsa.
“Farmers has had and long a productive partnership with Edward James Olmos,” said John Lucido, state executive director for Farmers in Oklahoma. “We are thrilled to join with the local leadership in Tulsa to bring someone as prominent as Olmos to the local community.”
Olmos is slated to be the keynote speaker at the Hispanic Chamber’s annual Excelencia Awards Gala on Saturday, May 21 at 7:00 p.m. Farmers has agreed to be the event’s presenting sponsor.
“This event is sure to be both inspiring and motivational for all attendees,” indicated David Jang, a Farmers reserve district manager in Tulsa. “Farmers, Mr. Olmos and the Hispanic Chamber share a common interest in increasing economic and professional opportunities for all communities through people and partnerships. We are confident that Olmos’ message of inclusiveness and commitment will be well-received by the greater Tulsa community.”
In 1999, Farmers and Olmos partnered to share Latino culture with the nation in bringing the Smithsonian Institution-curated photography exhibition, AMERICANOS: Latino Life in the United States, to communities across the country. Later, in 2006, Olmos agreed to be the Hispanic spokesperson for Farmers.
