Seasonal Home Insurance

header line

Lots of homes don't qualify for "standard" or "preferred" homeowners insurance for many different reasons. That's what sets our program apart — we specialize in homes that may not qualify elsewhere, including seasonal or secondary properties.

Farmers gets it.
We aren't the only company selling home insurance today. That's why we're committed to doing a better job than the competition. It all starts with your policy. We accept homes that other carriers won’t because of age, condition, value or other considerations. With over 50 years experience, you can rest assured knowing your Farmers policy gets you access to the nation's most experienced team of insurance experts.

Seasonal/Vacation Home Insurance Coverage

We cover seasonal and secondary properties, as well as properties in rural areas. In certain states, we do not require that your primary residence be insured with us to insure your seasonal or secondary home. Contact a local Farmers agent for further details.

Property Coverage

We offer a package that covers physical loss to your home, other structures and personal property. If you prefer, you may select to insure your home only, with optional coverage for your other structures and personal property.

While no insurance policy covers everything, your policy should cover a wide range of possible damages or causes of loss. Farmers has homeowners and owner-occupied dwelling fire programs, which cover losses differently.

Comprehensive Coverage - Covers direct, sudden and accidental physical losses that aren't specifically excluded in your policy.

Named peril coverage - Covers the perils (causes of damage such as fire, wind, hail, etc.) which are specifically named in your policy.

Liability Coverage

Liability insurance covers you if you're found legally responsible for a covered injury or property damage to someone who doesn't live in your home. It compensates injured persons for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and property damage, and if the coverage applies, legal counsel is furnished if you're sued.

Optional Coverages

Farmers offers important optional coverages that let you customize your policy. Some coverages may be subject to company approval. These are a few of the most popular coverage options:

  • Replacement Cost coverage on personal property
  • Additional coverage for jewelry, watches and furs
  • Business property and liability
  • High liability limits

Features & Discounts

Policy discounts vary by state and chances are one or more will apply to your policy. In many states, there are discounts for customers 50 years of age or older, or central fire and burglar alarm systems. Please contact your Farmers agent to see what specific discounts are available in your area. Higher deductibles can help lower the cost of your premium and flexible payment plans help you keep your monthly budgeting on track. Together they can help you keep you premium payment affordable.

Availability

Farmers' seasonal home program is offered in many, but not all states at this time. Programs and coverages can vary among states. To qualify for Farmers coverage, homes must meet state-specific eligibility guidelines. Please talk to your Farmers agent to receive full details.

Settlement Methods

Your settlement method depends on which policy you choose and whether or not you purchase any optional endorsements.

  • Actual Cash Value: Our base policy has an Actual Cash Value settlement. An ACV settlement is the cost to replace or repair you damaged property, with a deduction to reflect the age and condition of the damaged property.
  • Replacement Cost: Our policy with Replacement Cost settlement reflects the cost to repair or replace damaged items with new items at today's prices.
  • Agreed Loss Settlement: An Agreed Loss Settlement means that in the case of a covered total loss to the home, your settlement will be the Amount of Insurance listed on your Declarations Page, with no deductible on the coverage for your home, unless stated elsewhere in the policy.
  • Extended Replacement Cost: For a covered total loss, if the cost to replace the home is more than the Amount of Insurance, up to an additional 25% of the Amount of Insurance eon the home is available.

What to Look For in a Seasonal Home Insurance Policy

For the most security, here are some things to take into consideration when choosing a seasonal home insurance policy:

  • Security and peace of mind: Look for companies that have experience with the kind of insurance you want. How long have they been in business? A company with a long, solid history will provide you with both expertise and stability.
  • Coverage Essentials: Does the company you're considering offer a broad range of coverage for your home and other structures? Comprehensive coverage is one of the broadest kind of coverages you can buy. That means you'll be insured against direct physical losses not specifically excluded in your policy.
  • Additional Coverages: A good company will recognize your special circumstances and work to offer the kinds of coverages you want. They'll offer additional options you can pick from, like coverage for jewelry, watches and furs, business property and liability, and replacement cost coverage for your personal property.
  • Choice of Payment Plans and Deductibles: Flexibility means choices. Having your pick from several deductible levels will allow you, if you desire, to lower your insurance cost by selecting a higher deductible. A choice in payment plans is important because everyone budgets their money differently. Some prefer to pay all at once and be done with it. Others like splitting up the payments over time. Whatever your preference, having the option to choose is what counts.
