Farmers Signs Commitment of Support for Service Members
National Insurer Also Re-Affirms Pledge to Hire Transitioning Veterans Across the U.S.
Los Angeles, Calif. (July 17, 2014) – Farmers Insurance, the largest insurer headquartered in Los Angeles, today signed a statement of support with the Department of Defense office of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), committing to seeking ways to increase opportunities for Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans. Roy Smith, President of Farmers Exclusive Agent Distribution, signed on behalf of the national, multiline insurance company.
“Farmers Insurance recognizes the talent and leadership potential found among current and former members of the armed forces and we are committed to strengthening our partnership with this group of American patriots,” said Smith. “Just as these motivated and well-trained men and women helped make our military the best in the world, we are confident they will help Farmers be the best in the industry.”
The Statement of Support confirms that Farmers Insurance will:
- Fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA);
- Provide its managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve;
- Honor the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans; and
- Continually recognize and support the nation’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.
Joining Smith in signing the ESGR statement of support was Mr. Paul Mock, ESGR National Chair.
"Supportive employers like Farmers Insurance are critical to maintaining the readiness and strength of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units and allow Guardsmen and Reservists the opportunity to serve our country more effectively and with greater peace of mind," said Mock. "By signing this Statement of Support, Farmers Insurance sends a clear message it stands committed to its military employees and recognizes the integrity, global perspective and proven leadership they bring to the workplace.”
Tom LaBonge, Los Angeles City Councilmember, also offered his support to the signing ceremony and reminded attendees of the City’s recently announced effort to secure jobs for 10,000 veterans over the next several years.
“Farmers Insurance is committed to hiring veterans and providing additional opportunities for current and former armed services members,” said Luisa Acosta-Franco, Head of Multicultural Recruiting and Field Support for Farmers Insurance. “Our signing of the ESGR today and our active involvement with the City of Los Angeles’ Office of Veterans Affairs is a clear demonstration of our commitment to this group of American heroes.”
Farmers has a number of opportunities available throughout the U.S. for which veterans may be qualified. Additionally, the national insurer is actively recruiting professionals with military experience for opportunities as Agency Owners.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense office established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between service members and employers. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging the employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
