Continuing a commitment to the community, Farmers Insurance chief executive officer to be honored with City of Hope’s 2011 Spirit of Life® Award
LOS ANGELES – City of Hope’s National Insurance Industry Council (NIIC) will recognize the tireless support of Farmers Insurance and its chief executive officer, Bob Woudstra, at the 2011 Spirit of Life® gala on Saturday, November 12, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. Woudstra will receive City of Hope’s most prestigious philanthropic honor, The Spirit of Life Award, in recognition of his outstanding business and philanthropic achievements. Farmers Insurance is a longtime supporter of City of Hope’s lifesaving mission to find cures for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
As a company committed to giving back to the communities where they work and play, Farmers Insurance has been a sponsor of City of Hope’s Walk for Hope, which supports the institution’s multidisciplinary Women’s Cancers Program, for the past three years. In addition to supporting City of Hope through its longtime involvement in the NIIC, Farmers Insurance has launched a new national initiative to help City of Hope encourage the community to join Be The Match Registry, a program that helps patients who are battling cancers like leukemia and lymphoma find matching bone marrow donors for their lifesaving bone marrow transplant treatment. The initiative includes a Farmers Insurance bone marrow registry program that will reach out to Farmers’ 40,000 employees, agents and district managers nationwide.
“I am thoroughly impressed by the City of Hope's commitment to innovative research and lifesaving patient care, which sets the standards for cancer care around the country. It is an honor to be recognized by an organization that impacts so many people and saves so many lives,” said Woudstra.
“Bob and the entire Farmers Insurance team are steadfast supporters of City of Hope and it’s a privilege to honor Bob’s commitment to our cause,” said Shannon Sullivan, director of development, City of Hope. “City of Hope’s groundbreaking research would not be possible without the support of leaders like Bob, Farmers Insurance and the many dedicated members of our National Insurance Industry Council.”
The NIIC was founded in 1978 by a group of key insurance industry executives and is composed of prominent property/casualty companies, law firms, brokers, accounting firms, reinsurers, executive placement firms and actuaries in the insurance industry. Motivated by their commitment to innovative medical research and quality patient care, and inspired by the guiding humanitarian principles of City of Hope, the NIIC has raised more than $19 million through its fundraising efforts.
