Military baby shower kicks off Farmers Insurance Open
LA JOLLA, CA – (January 25, 2011) Farmers Insurance, the second largest contributor nationwide to the March of Dimes, is kicking off the Farmers Insurance Open with a baby shower honoring military families. Non-profit partners March of Dimes and Operation Shower will host a dream baby shower for 36 military moms-to-be at the Military Pavillion, located on the 14th hole of Torrey Pines Golf Course, at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
This “baby shower,” to support expectant mothers in military families, is sponsored by the March of Dimes, Farmers Insurance and other corporate leaders. The moms-to-be will receive gift boxes filled with supplies, clothes, toys, books and more.
“Families are at the core of everything we do at Farmers and we are deeply committed to giving all babies the best start possible,” said Mhayse Samalya, President of Farmers Business Insurance. “My first born son was born premature and I know first hand the life changing work the March of Dimes does for families.”
“The Farmers Insurance Open is huge fundraiser for charities in the San Diego area,” said Kevin Kelso, Chief Marketing Officer of Farmers Insurance. “Kicking the week off by celebrating local moms and families is the perfect way to honor the community and the spirit of the tournament.”
In addition to sponsoring the baby shower, Farmers is also surprising three lucky moms with a gift for the future – a contribution of $1,000 towards the establishment of a “college fund” for the baby. The moms will be chosen at random and partnered with a local Farmers Insurance agent to set up a college savings account.
“Any parent knows it is never too soon to start thinking about the future,” said Scott Lindquist, Chief Financial Officer of Farmers Insurance. “This money is an investment in three bright futures.”
Farmers raised $4.7 million dollars in 2010 on behalf of the March of Dimes. Farmers’ annual “Be A Hero for Babies” day holds the record as the largest single-day fundraiser in March of Dimes history, raising more than $2.6 million dollars in 2010.
