Roy Smith named Senior Vice President of Farmers Insurance Southwest Zone
LOS ANGELES, CA—(December 21, 2009)--- Farmers Insurance Group of Companies® announces the appointment of Senior Vice President Roy Smith to Senior Vice President Field Operations, Southwest Zone, effective immediately. The Southwest Zone includes the states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
“Roy brings a wealth of insurance knowledge to his new position,” notes Jerry Carnahan, Executive Vice President—Field Operations. “He has served in many capacities within Farmers and we wish him the very best in his new position.”
Mr. Smith joined Farmers Insurance in July 1985 as a Personal Lines underwriter in the Mission, Kan. Regional Office. He moved to the Marketing department in 1986 as a Sales management trainee, and held additional positions, including Sales Administration manager, Life Sales representative, and division agency manager.
In October 1990, Mr. Smith transferred to the Portland, Ore. Regional Office as regional education Marketing manager, and in 1992, he became Marketing Administration manager. He was promoted to Executive Director—Colorado in July 1998, and assigned as Executive Director—Ohio on Oct. 16, 2000. Effective June 1, 2002, Mr. Smith was promoted to Vice President—Sales, Home Office. He was named to a new position of Executive Director —Southern California, effective July 1, 2004, a position he held until his current position as Vice President—State Operations, effective June 2006.
A native of Missouri, Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of arts degree in administration of justice and criminology from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Smith and his wife Carrie, have one daughter Caitlin, and reside in Simi Valley, Calif.
