Farmers Insurance District Manager and Agents of the Year announced at President's Council

Congratulations to our 2011 Presidents Award winners

We’re proud to announce our 2011 Personal Lines, Commercial, and Life and Financial Services Agents of the Year as well, as Farmers’ highest honors, Agent of the Year and District Manager of the Year.

Agent of the Year

Ryan Wolk
Saint Genevieve, Missouri

Our 2011 Agent of the Year’s Production Count, 27,812, was the highest ever in the history of his state. If that wasn’t enough, the seven-time PC member had 79.5 Life policies issued-and-paid in 2010, and wrote 84 new FFS accounts. In 2010, Wolk grew his agency by an impressive 1,197 policies and achieved a profitability that neared $1.3 million. He is a Million Dollar Round Table and Championship qualifier and an FFS Wall of Fame honoree.

Wolk is a true believer in giving back. When agents around the country ask him to share best-practices, he’s happy to do it despite a busy schedule. He’s also very active in his community, especially in supporting local high school sports.

District Manager of the Year

Matt Wolk
Ballwin, Missouri

Our District Manager of the Year (and, in a Farmers first, brother of our Agent of the Year) has had an amazing 12 months of profitable growth. Not only did he have 39 Reserve appointments and five Career appointments in 2010, his eight most recent Career appointments all earned Topper Blue Vase. He had 196.5 percent production-to-quota in 2010 and averages 20 Life policies issued-and-paid per full-time agent. His district was more than $6.4 million profitable in 2010 and he grew his gross written premium by nearly $2 million.

Like his brother, Matt Wolk is a true believer in giving back. He travels extensively to speak to groups of agents and DMs, sharing his knowledge and inspiring them to reach for even greater heights. And his annual March of Dimes bowling tournament is legendary, one of the state’s biggest fundraising events.

Personal Lines Agent of the Year

Virginia Tam
Fremont, Calif.

What’s the secret to our 2011 Personal Lines Agent of the Year’s success? She’ll tell you it’s a focus on multi-line sales and excellent customer service. The result: PIF growth of more than 800 in 2010.

Consistently providing excellent customer service has an added benefit. Tam attributes at least 90 percent of her business to referrals. That’s because she’s committed to building lifelong relationships with her customers and their families. But Tam doesn’t do it alone; she focuses on encouraging a team atmosphere among her eight-person staff as well as keeping them motivated and feeling appreciated. She also helps fellow agents, providing them with her insight on staffing, agency promotions, sales and more.

In addition to running a busy agency, Tam volunteers for a local citizens’ group. Its mission: find ways to better the lives of people in her community. She also supports her local Rotary Club and a Chinese cultural center and school.

Life and Financial Services Agent of the Year

Al Candos
Orland Park, Ill.

Our 2011 Life and Financial Services Agent of the Year ended 2010 with an impressive 20,756 in Life Production Count, taking his total Production Count to 26,506. His adjusted all-lines profitability in 2010 was more than $1 million, and he added 70 new Life policies last year, as well as 61 new FFS accounts new. Add to that a Customer Loyalty Ratio of over 87 percent, and it’s clear that his attention to both new and existing customers pays off. He is a 21-time Presidents Council attendee and has been named Agent of the Year four times.

Earlier this year he made Farmers history by becoming our first agent to qualify for Million Dollar Round Table “Top of the Table” status. His agency is so committed to Life insurance that one of his producers also qualified for Million Dollar Round Table.
Candos also sets a great example in his community as a major fundraiser for the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society and through his work for a local women and children’s crisis center.

Commercial Agent of the Year

Dave Clayton
Fremont, Calif.

This 15-time Presidents Council member has been named Commercial Agent of the Year a remarkable seven out of the last eight years. In 2010, Clayton delivered an impressive Commercial Production Count of 20,525 and a solid adjusted All-Lines Production Count of 29,177. Besides Presidents Council, he’s been to 15 Championships, 15 Topper Clubs and was named Agent of the Year in 2005.

Clayton, a true believer in the importance of one-to-one meetings with customers (a daunting task for someone with 2,529 policies-in-force), averages 10 appointments a day and puts tens of thousands of miles on his car every year.

Even with his incredibly busy work schedule, he still finds the time to help fellow agents, making his expertise and advice available for those who ask. He is also making a big difference in his community, especially by helping to keep children safe through the m.i.l.k program.
