California State Fire Safe Council and Farmers Insurance present “Disaster Prep: What’s Next” a fire and disaster prevention/preparedness workshop

The Workshop will be held in Ontario, September 15, 2010

Ontario, CA – (September 13, 2010) --- Everyone in San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and San Diego counties are invited to make plans to join the California State Fire Safe Council and Firesafe Council members from the four counties, Farmers Insurance, the California Earthquake Authority, and an array of interesting speakers on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 for the “Disaster Prep: What’s Next” preparedness workshop.

The FREE event is planned for 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Ontario Airport Holiday Inn at 2155 E. Convention Center Way

Homeowners who live anywhere in the four county area --in, close to or near forest and fire dangers-- are welcome to attend.  “We are offering a lot of solid information to help homeowners safeguard their homes from fire and earthquakes,” noted Margaret Grayson, Executive Director of the California Fire Safe Council. 

“We hope all homeowners from the four county  area will attend this important disaster prevention workshop,” stated Kirk Tweedy and Charles Dabelgott, Farmers California State Executive Directors.

Homeowners will learn about Living With Fire: Fire Safe Building Materials and Landscaping, presented by Pat Durland, Principal, Stone Creek Fire, LLC.   –

Sue Perry, staff scientist, USGS/Multi-Hazards will discuss reducing risk from wildfires and the debris flow; Dan Dyce, California Earthquake Authority Response Manager will review earthquake insurance availability in California and the threats of earthquakes; and Martin Ayala, Disaster Director of the American Red Cross of the Inland Empire will discuss the Red Cross role in disasters.

A Farmers Insurance agent panel will discuss insuring your home in wildfire areas.  They are prepared to answer questions from the audience about insurance coverages and how to keep your home fire prevention ready and insurable.

The afternoon session will feature a local solutions forum with David Yegge, Fire Fuels Program Coordinator, Big Bear Lake Fire Department; Edwina Scott, Executive Director, Mountain Communities FSC, Idyllwild; and Mary Schreiber, Coordinator, Inter Canyon League, Fire Safe Council.

Speakers will be available to meet with the attendees afterward.  So, please bring your questions, information and get prepared for the continuing disaster threats facing California residents year-round.
